The legendary Karthäuserhof estate is a place of fairy tales. Overlooking the sublime Ruwer valley, we are the eighth oldest winegrowing estate in the world. Officially founded as a monastery in 1335, this “Farm of the Carthusians” was given as a gift to the monks of the Carthusian order by Prince-Elector Balduin of Luxembourg. Incredibly, since 1811, the Karthäuserhof has been owned by a seven generations of our family.

„Rising Star of the year“
in Gault&Millau Wineguide 2019

Germanys highly regarded wineguide Gault&Millau has awarded the price of the “Rising star” (“Aufsteiger des Jahres”) in its 2019 edition to Albert Behler and the Karthäuserhof estate in Trier-Eitelsbach. The wines sent in for the jury tastings have convinced the jury to choose the well-established VDP estate from the Ruwer valley for this prestigious award. It confirms once again the outstanding terroir and great Riesling heritage of our vineyards. We feel honoured to be in the spotlight and encouraged in our pursuit for quality.
