A true institution in Trier: founded by @peterschmalen and shaped over three decades, the @schlemmereuletrier entered a new chapter in 2023 with Johannes Maria Kneip as owner and head chef.

After years in top kitchens such as Söl’ring Hof (Sylt), Facil (Berlin), Mural and Sparkling Bistro (Munich), Johannes returned home – bringing fresh ideas while honoring the spirit and roots of this beloved restaurant, which he affectionately calls his living room.

Thank you, Johannes, for sharing your story and the inspirations behind the new Schlemmereule – one of our favorite places in Trier.

In this conversation, Stephan Kemen (CEO 4711) and Benedikt Belger (CEO Karthäuserhof) trace the shared heritage of both brands – a connection that began in the 19th century, when Kathinka Mülhens of the @4711 family married Wilhelm Rautenstrauch of the Karthäuserhof.
